What is the difference between Virgin and Extra Virgin carrier oils?
When an oil extra virgin, it means it is the least processed variety of that carrier oil, still possessing its antioxidant, vitamin, and essential fatty acid content. Extra virgin carrier oils are also believed to possess an acidity level of 0.8 percent or lower. On the other hand, virgin carrier oils have a fatty acid level of between 0.8 and 2.0 percent. Virgin carrier oils still possess most of the original nutrient profile, although it is slightly more processed than extra-virgin varieties.

What does it mean for a carrier oil to be fractionated?
Primarily referring to a specific type of Coconut Carrier Oil, an oil is considered “fractionated” when certain types of fats from the oil are removed. This results in a more refined type of oil that does not solidify at room temperature.

Deodorization refers to the process of removing a carrier oil’s characteristics aroma, typically through a charcoal filter.

Butter Types

What is the difference between Refined and Crude butter types?
Refined butters are filtered and strained through natural means or through temperature treatments, resulting in a colorless, odorless product that is an ideal ingredient for cosmetic manufacturing.
On the other end of the spectrum, Crude refers to a butter in its purest form. Crude butters are often hard in texture, possess a stronger, earthy aroma, and often feature an off-white to streaky grey color. Some Crude butters may also have naturally-occurring darker spots throughout the product.

Referring to an unrefined butter, Pure Pressed means the butter has not been heated at high temperatures during the manufacturing process. Therefore, the butter’s natural color, texture, and aroma are preserved in the final product.
