Catnip, also known as Catmint, has earned a reputation for its intoxicating effect on house cats, caused by a compound that induces temporary euphoria. However, since the 15th century, humans have also used Catnip as an herbal remedy. It’s valued for its soothing properties, alleviating discomfort and promoting relaxation.
Native to Europe, Asia, and Africa, Catnip has naturalized in North America. The Catnip plant is widely used in commercial teas and cat toys and is cultivated in parts of Canada such as Alberta and British Columbia. Catnip Essential Oil is very concentrated. Dilute before applying to the skin or using in any other application.
DIRECTIONS & SUGGESTED USAGE
- Creative Cat Toys: Essential oils must be heavily diluted for cats. Mix 1-2 drops of Catnip Essential Oil with 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil such as Olive Oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil. Apply the diluted mixture sparingly to the surface of the cat toy. Allow it to dry completely before use.
- Soak Away Stress: Create a calming atmosphere by adding a few drops of Catnip Essential Oil to a diffuser. Alternatively, it can be used to create a beautiful bath blend. Add a few drops of Catnip Essential Oil to bathwater and enjoy its soothing aroma. Mix well before entering the bath to ensure even distribution.
- Take a Paws: Dilute Catnip Essential Oil with a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil or Sweet Almond Oil to create a relaxing massage blends. The typical ratio is 1-2 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil. This formula not only nourishes the skin but also helps to promote a sense of calm.
- Cats Play, Bugs Stay Away: Mix 4-5 drops of Catnip Essential Oil in ¼ cup of water for a quick blend suitable for spraying around the house, patio, or on strategically placed cotton balls to protect against insects that bite, such as mosquitoes.
